Operations Manager for
Furnish a Future

The Partnership for the Homeless, a leading social service and advocacy
organization, seeks an experienced professional to manage the day-to-day
operations of Furnish a Future, its furniture redistribution program
located in a 29000 square foot showroom and warehouse in the Bushwick
section of Brooklyn. Furnish a Future is an integral part of The
Partnership's broad continuum of care that helps homeless families and
individuals make the transition from shelters to homes by furnishing
apartments, at no cost, with furniture and household goods donated by the
design and hotel industry, manufacturers, corporations, and individuals.
Managing warehouse and customer service staff, as well as a fleet of
independent truckers, the Operations Manager will be responsible for
managing truckers and routing, inbound and outbound inventory, overseeing
program wide warehouse systems, and facilities management. The Operations
Manager will also work closely with the Project Director and other
Partnership management staff to implement new program services.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating delivery and pick-up routes for trucker to assure that
schedules are maintained;
- Developing warehouse work schedules and work flow systems, supervising
and motivating a team of warehouse workers and administrative staff;
- Maintaining an inventory system of furniture and housewares using a bar
code system, and establishing procedures for furniture storage and
maintenance;
- Overseeing databases that include client and donor information;
- Managing all aspects of facilities management, including HVAC systems;
- Managing relationships with vendors, clients, and donors to ensure
customer satisfaction, as well as working with other social service and
community groups on special projects;
- Assisting the Project Director with special projects, including bulk
donations, furniture drives and special events; and,
- Assisting warehouse and office staff in their day-to-day
responsibilities, when necessary.
Candidates should have:
- Minimum 2 years experience in warehouse operations and supervision of
warehouse staff;
- College preferred, but not essential. Bi-lingual a plus.
- Knowledge of bar coding and inventory systems.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and delegate responsibilities;
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; and,
- Knowledge of office software programs.
