Summary Description:

Under general supervision from the Vice President of Warehouse Operations, the Director of Distribution is responsible for the supervision of warehouse personnel and facility in order to make timely and accurate shipping and receiving of products. This position plans and directs all warehousing activities for Sprouts Farmers Market such as: providing a safe work environment, creating and implementing sound management practices, procedures and controls to help manage all incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current. Prepares and monitors warehouse reports, records, and documentation and determines necessary changes for overall department improvement and efficiency. Provides department budget recommendations and establishes controls to assure optimum deployment of resources within approved budget.

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:


The following represents the main job duties of the Director of Distribution; however, it is not an all-inclusive list of all the job duties that may be required. All Sprouts� Employees are expected to perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Recommends strategic goals, budget and operational objectives for the warehouse to ensure the most cost efficient operation possible. Ensures that productivity targets are met and maintains appropriate inventory related databases.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive work environment that adheres to Sprouts Core Values. Motivates, organizes and encourages teamwork to help meet productivity targets.
  • Communicates with various company personnel, vendors and other customers. Responds to issues and concerns in a timely manner by email, fax, telephone, etc.
  • Directs dispatching to ensure timely and accurate scheduling of shipments. Coordinates inter-company transfer of product for store deliveries. Coordinates any secondary deliveries due to any shortages or mistakes on original scheduled deliveries.
  • Directs the receiving to ensure proper count and physical inspection of merchandise. Manages proper distribution of product. Ensures stock is properly rotated according to Sprouts� standards.
  • Coordinates with buyers to ensure adequate inventory is received and available for prompt deliveries.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of all warehouse equipment such as forklifts, refrigeration system, etc. Makes sure all products are stored in the correct condition and temperature.
  • Responsible for maintaining the warehouse is in full compliance with all Federal, State and local regulatory safety, labor, worker�s comp and health requirements ensuring the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment.
  • Responsible for controlling labor cost and for minimizing shrink. Maintains operating budget related to freight, retail pricing, repairs & maintenance and other costs. Ensures high level of quality at all times.
  • Directs employee relations issues for the warehouse, hiring, training, motivating, conduct performance reviews, conflict resolution and discipline in concert with Human Resources Department.
  • Delivering and fulfilling objectives and directions from the operation's headquarters;
  • Produces regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis; keeping stock control systems up to date and planning future capacity requirements;
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor�s degree from an accredited college/university in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management (the education requirement may be substituted on a year-for-year basis) and three to five years experience managing in a warehouse and/or distribution center, preferably in a grocery retail environment. This position must have at least two years supervisory experience preferably in a warehouse/distribution environment. Must have a strong working knowledge of the various Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to warehouse operations. A strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements in a warehouse setting. Demonstrated superior leadership skills, demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Must have strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must have a valid driver�s license and a clean driving record and pass a drug test.

Demonstrates superior leadership skills, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Possess effective time management, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Must be resourceful and effective at building partnerships in and outside of the company, be able to use all resources to effectively solve problems. Must have strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, and Word). Be able to multi-task and set priorities, pay attention to detail, have a good understanding of warehouse management best practices, be able to maintain confidentiality, be able to provide and receive constructive feedback, be able to work in a fast pace environment, the ability to work within strict time frames and deadlines, be able to use the standard office equipment (fax, PC, copier, calculator, etc.) and be able to carry out written and verbal instruction. Be committed to providing excellent customer service. This position must have a working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations that are specific to directing a warehouse operation. This position requires a strong working background with logistics, WMS, and produce knowledge.

Work Environment:


This position will work in a warehouse/distribution center. Typically a warehouse environment is subject to exposure to extreme temperature changes, moisture, noise, odors, and moving equipment. This position maybe required moving heavy items, running fork lifts or pallet jacks on occasion, must be able to lift, push, pull, and/or carry 50 lbs. This position maybe required to perform other physical activities such as moving pallets, loading trucks, reaching, bending or climbing. This position will also work in a standard office environment and will be required to work on a computer and use other standard office equipment. Some sitting for extended periods will be required, extensive phone communication and a lot interaction with warehouse staff and store level personnel. Some travel will be required to and from stores and/or corporate office.
